Gone but Not Forgotten 2024

December 31, 2024 by Stephen Adams

There were 39* Colorado brewery taprooms that had to close for various reasons in 2024.

*Note:  Six of these taprooms were additional locations where either the original location stayed open, or the brewery moved fully to their newer location. 15 of these locations are now operated by a new brewery.

The following list of breweries is a tribute to those that are Gone But Not Forgotten.

Dry Dock – North Dock (Aurora) Sep 2014 – 27 Jan 2024

Dry Dock original location still open

The first closure of 2024 was Dry Dock’s production facility and taproom.  They didn’t release a statement online about it but, as written about by Jonathan “Colorado Beerman” Shikes, they made the decision to partner their major production with Great Divide Brewing:  Dry Dock Brewing will close Aurora production brewery, partner with Great Divide

Peak View Brewing (Greenwood Village) 05 Apr 2019 – 01 Feb 2024

Location acquired by Downhill Brewing

Closure Announcement:

Today we pass the torch to Downhill Brewing Company. It has been a roller coaster of a ride from April 2019 until now and we couldn’t be more grateful for the wonderful experience that it has brought to everyone involved. We have made lifetime friends and will cherish all the memories that Peak View has created for us. We can’t thank everyone enough for the continual support over the past almost five years.
*
That being said, there will be plenty of great memories and delicious beers to make moving forward. We have been friends with Downhill Brewing for years now and we are thrilled to become one family. We will make this transition for everyone as smooth as possible and we realize that there will be plenty of questions. The doors will remain open everyday and we are exited for this new chapter. Stay tuned for new things to come. We love you all! ❤️ 🍻

Thank you so much for your love and support over the last 9 years. We are so fortunate to have had the opportunity to serve you all these years. As you can imagine, there are so many things to accomplish in a large transition like this, and as more information becomes available Barnett & Son and Lone Tree Brewing will keep you informed.
Cheers and thank you all – you’re the best !

Envy Brewing (Fort Collins)

Location acquired by Konstruct Brewing
Closure Announcement

Sunroom Brewing (Englewood)

30 Sep 2022 – 29 Feb 2024

Location acquired by Lady Justice Brewing

As you know Sunroom Brewing is family owned and family run. Last year, our family received some news that is going to take us away from our longtime family home, and our second home at Sunroom Brewing. In the short two years since signing our lease we have worked tirelessly to build Sunroom Brewing to be a place for everyone to come and enjoy our incredible beers, staff, and atmosphere. This was a dream since coming to Colorado over a decade ago; and we did it! We opened a profitable brewery in the Craft Capital of the United States! Life gives you twists and turns that you do not always see coming, and our family has another chapter that we must start.

With this, we have sold the Sunroom Brewing business to the incredible owners at Lady Justice Brewing. Lady Justice will bring its brand to the space in March. During the exit of this chapter, it was of the utmost importance to us to make sure our establishment, staff, and patrons continue on in the hands of those that share the core values that we hold dear in our space. We could not have asked for a better team to hand off to! Lady Justice is an award-winning brewery in Aurora. They have a decade of experience in creating excellent beer, and making the world a better place. We are excited to work with them during this transition, and even more to come in as patrons when we are back in the area.

Both of us thank each and every one of you who has come in, and we are thankful to have fulfilled this dream with each of you, albeit a short two years as it was. While we venture into our next steps, Sunroom Brewing will stay dear to our hearts and we look forward to Lady J continuing on our journey and bringing their long tenured experience for everyone to enjoy.

Mahogany Ridge Brewery & Grill (Steamboat Springs)

Mar 2003 – 29 Mar 2024

Mahogany Ridge had been a part of the Steamboat Springs brewing community for over 20 years!  While they posted no announcement of their closure they did post this brief farewell message…
Thank you all who showed their love & support over the past week. Thanks for many memories of good times at Mahogany Ridge!

Alpine Dog Brewing Company (Denver)

22 Nov 2014 – 31 Mar 2024

We have news! After nearly 10 years of great beer, great friends and the most fun and epic of times, Alpine Dog will be selling or otherwise closing the brewery. It’s a bittersweet moment to leave behind what we have built, the regulars that have supported us, and the delightful industry and Denver beer scene, but for many reasons, it’s time to move on. Our hope is to sell the operation to an inspired operator as we would love to see the space live on as a brewery for the neighborhood, and we are currently in some discussions to do so. However, in the meantime, our last day of operations will be March 31st (party tba on the 30th). Thanks and gratitude to all of you who have enjoyed beers with us over the years! 🍻❤️

Aspen Brewing Co. (Aspen)

Location acquired by Westbound & Down.
The Aspen Brewing Taproom was acquired by Westbound & Down in December 2023 and was rebranded to Westy’s Tap & Tavern in April 2024.
Westbound & Down Brewing Acquires Aspen Brewing & Capitol Creek Brewing

Grandma’s House Beer Co (Denver)

Oct 2014 – 30 Apr 2024

Closure Announcement:
After 10+ years, we will be closing the brewery at the end of April. Like any decision of this magnitude, the reasons are complicated. However, after dealing with possibly the worst landlords in all of Denver for quite some time, we’ve known that this would most likely not be our long-term home, and now is the right time to move on.
So, what does the future hold for Grandma? She is going to take some much needed time to relax and reflect on her next move, as she isn’t the same lady she was back in 2014, and Denver isn’t exactly the same cowtown it was either. We’d like to think we offered something a bit different that still has a place in this great city, but if this is in fact the end, it has been an honor and a privilege to serve you beers made with love in the back of this shabby building. We’d love to see all y’all one last time before we pack up and move on.

So Many Roads Brewery (Denver)

14 Jul 2021 – 01 May 2024

Snowbank Brewing (Fort Collins)

Aug 2014 – 10 May 2024

Location acquired by Timnath Beerwerks
After a decade of crafting exceptional brews Snowbank Brewing is proud to announce a significant milestone in our journey. We have entered into an agreement to be acquired by Timanth Beerwerks.
We are thankful to our community for the past ten years of great beers, Snowballaz Run Clubs, Santa Cycle Rampages, Beer fests, every person that came to the taproom, drank our beers around town, and grabbed a bottle or can at a liquor store.
Beginning in 2014 we had no idea how the craft beer scene would change over the next ten years. We are excited to be selling to a good friend and amazing brewery, Timanth Beerwerks who will continue to create high quality and innovative brews. Timnaths owner and brewer, Cy and Dave, Snowbank’s Founder, are longtime friends and go all the way back to homebrewing days.
We are thankful for all of our fans, and longtime supporters for so many memories that will last a lifetime. Cheers to all of YOU and please support the Timnath Beerwerks team as they embark on a new journey as well.
The Snowbank taproom is closed for renovations and will remain closed for a couple of weeks, so stay tuned to social media for an announcement on the taproom reopening and details on changes.

Batch Slapped Brewery & Cidery (Colorado Springs)

04 Feb 2022 – 30 Jul 2024

Closure Announcement:
It is with mixed emotions that we announce the closure of Batch Slapped Brewery/Cidery. After much consideration and reflection, we have made the difficult decision to cease operations, effective July 13, 2024.
Since our humble beginnings, Batch Slapped Brewery/Cidery has been more than just a place to enjoy great drinks; it has been a community and a gathering place for friends and family. We have poured our hearts and souls into creating unique and flavorful brews and ciders, and we are proud of what we have accomplished together.
However, the challenges facing small businesses in today’s competitive market are significant, and despite our best efforts, we have been unable to overcome them. We want to assure you that this decision was not made due to a lack of passion, but rather a recognition of the realities of the current landscape.
We will miss the beer fests, the events, the late night hockey games, staying open late for great conversations, and the day a new lab releases. But most of all, we will miss the people. Our regulars have become not only friends but family. Our staff have been incredibly flexible, supportive, and understanding through some very hard times. We hope you, as a community, will understand that this decision was not made lightly or without great care and concern.
A special shout out to our mug club members as they are the heart and soul of this place. We deeply appreciate you. We are planning a special event for mug club members and we hope you will join us.
While this may be the end of the road for Batch Slapped Brewery/Cidery, we hope that the friendships and connections forged here will endure. We hope you come in and see us before July. We hope you will share a favorite memory or beer/cider. We hope you will be kind. We hope to leave this amazing Springs community on a positive note. Most of all, we hope this is not the end for us and we will create beer for all of you wonderful people again.
Sincerely,
Jordan Oswald, co-owner
Emily O’Keefe, co-owner
And the Batch Slapped team:
Ashley (social media/kitchen)
Tommy (CFO/assistant brewer)
Zach (kitchen manager)
Shari (momma/beertender)
Caitlyn (beertender)
Lindsay (beertender)

To our entertainers and artists, you have brought so much light to our taproom – thank you for sharing your talents.
To our brilliant staff, this adventure literally could not have existed without you – thank you for your great ideas, flexibility, and the many laughs along the way. We will miss you terribly. A big shoutout to our bar mom Jo who’s been with us since Day 1 and has provided wisdom, humor, and grit in equal measure.
And to our compete-mates in the COS brewing community – for the lessons, the helping hands, the festival shenanigans, the collabs, the encouragement and comradery, we will be forever grateful. You are all awesome and we consider it a great privilege to have celebrated our craft with such fantastic people.
We have learned so much, grown so much and, if our hearts are heavy, it is due in great part to how full they are from having shared the past 3 years with you. Our scheduled September events will continue as planned through the end of the month, to include Music Video Bingo tonight, Sept 10. In the coming weeks, please stop by and take advantage of specials on merch, to-go beer, and yes, the early release of our anniversary Rover Smasher Barleywine. We hope to see you in the taproom soon or on Sept 29 when we celebrate the end of this adventure and the start of the next.
Cheers,

Closed original brewery along with Steamboat Springs taproom  Yampa Valley in Craig is still open under different ownership.

Closure Announcement:

Dear YVBC Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to a place that has been so special to us. YVBC has been more than just a brewery. It has been a gathering space, a home away from home, and a place to connect the Yampa Valley communities. We are grateful for the memories shared, and the countless moments of joy we have experienced together within our locations.
While it is bittersweet to see this chapter end, we want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for allowing us to be a part of something so special. Your support has made YVBC what it is, and we are honored to have been on this incredible journey with you. The YVBC commitment to helping our communities has not gone unnoticed and has made a tremendous impact.
The Hayden and Steamboat locations will be closing over the next few months, and we are pleased to announce that the YVBC brand will live on at the Craig location. We are excited to share that Savana Crow will be taking over the business. Savana has been a vital part of the team and her commitment to the successful atmosphere at the Craig location will continue forward.
We want to thank our staff for facilitating these moments and memories. Your focus on building relationships and ensuring the best gathering space and product has been integral in making YVBC what it is today, and we are so grateful.
As owners of the real estate at the Steamboat and Hayden locations it is important to us that just like YVBC has done, we will search for new tenants that will connect the community and add value.
We wish the entire YVBC family and community nothing but the best. To celebrate you all and our amazing staff we will be hosting a THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES party at some point over the next few months and will follow up with additional details.
With gratitude and best wishes,
YVBC Family

FH Beerworks (Colorado Springs)

23 Jun 2014 – 21 Dec 2024

Closure Announcement:
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the upcoming closure of FH Beerworks and NEAT Whiskey House. After ten incredible years of serving the Colorado Springs community, our last day of service will be Saturday, December 21st, 2024.
This decision was not made lightly, but due to the state of the industry, and for the health and wellbeing of our family, it is time to close this chapter. We are profoundly grateful for the unwavering support, friendship, and memories you have shared with us over the years. To anyone who has ever been part of this chapter of our story, we cannot even begin to thank you enough. You have made this journey truly unforgettable.
While this is the end of FH Beerworks and NEAT, it is not the end for us. Travis will continue serving the community through his handyman and remodeling business, Gideon Home Services, and Niki will continue in real estate. Your support of these small businesses as we move on means the world to us, and we would greatly appreciate your business and referrals. You can message us here for more information to support us in what’s next.
Thank you for being part of our story. We look forward to celebrating these final days with you. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for ten amazing years.
Cheers, Travis and Niki FH Beerworks & NEAT Whiskey House

Fiction Beer Company (Denver)

17 Sep 2014 – 31 Dec 2024

Original location closed.  Fiction Beer in Parker still open.
Closure Announcement:
Ryan and Christa Kilpatrick here with some heavy news. To our dear book and beer friends: after 10 years of business, we’ve made the very difficult decision to close our Denver taproom. Our last day open will be December 31, 2024 (New Year’s Eve). We are so thankful for everyone’s support and patronage throughout the years. Because of you, we’ve made lasting friendships, fostered an incredible community space, and made some wonderful memories throughout the years. We’ve crafted quite the story and now it’s time to close the book on Colfax Avenue.
But it’s not goodbye yet—we would love your support in our last month! We have a great lineup of events for the month of December, plenty of beer to drink, and a staff that needs all the hugs and high fives they can get.
Our Parker taproom will remain OPEN and will continue to serve up excellent beers and the community events we’re known for.
And now to the why. Our lease ends 12/31/2024 and as owners, Ryan and I have elected to not renew our Denver taproom lease for another 5-year term. There are so many reasons for this, but what it comes down to is that the craft beer biz is a difficult and demanding one and it’s time to move on to less stressful ventures for the sake of our kiddos and ourselves. And although it’s incredibly sad to say goodbye, we are excited to write a new chapter for ourselves as happier and healthier main characters.

In happy news, there were 32 openings this year in the Colorado Brewery Class of 2024.
